Each year we will select a number of PhD candidates for ERASMUS MUNDUS scholarships, and some others for PhD projects financed by other funding sources.
The ERASMUS MUNDUS scholarships are divided in Categories A and B, which have different criteria for eligibility:
For each Category A and B we will prepare a ranked selection list of candidates. For the ranking of candidates we use the folling criteria:

| Research experience related to the specific project | 25% |
| Reputation/ranking of home institution* | 15% |
| Motivation letter | 10% |
| Reference letter | 10% |
In order to finalise the ranking, the candidates at the top of the selection list will then be invited to an interview via telephone or videoconference.
We then submit our list to the European Commission (EACEA Agency) which has to approve our selection.
*For calculation of the ’home institution’ score we use the ’overall’ Shanghai ranking (see this website) and the following table:
